The existence of AI agents has often caused me to want to hire for new roles. By making it cheaper to finally do certain work, it becomes far more affordable and reasonable to do that work, so you can finally light it up. I have an immediate workflow in GTM that I know will drive revenue growth. Previously, just the mental energy to imagine putting people on the task manually would be impossible, and no solution in the market existed. And it would have been unlikely we could prioritize building any automation for it on the eng team. Now, I want to hire someone to do that automation with agents. In theory I could do this myself. I know all the steps and tools. But then I have to maintain it, and think about it, which I don’t want to do. It is far more profitable and useful to have someone else do that. This is a teeny tiny example of how AI will actually roll out in the world. The company figures out a process they want to improve, or a new capability they want in their organization. Agents finally make it possible and affordable. They then decide they want someone to maintain that system because it’s mission critical. This will happen everywhere.
