Imagine a drug-free San Francisco. Sometimes I daydream. What would this city be like without the illegal drug scene? -Those two people a day dying of overdose may be alive. -The streets and sidewalks would be clean and safe. -Dogs would be loved and well-cared for instead of neglected and abused. -Children could walk to school without seeing the worst of humanity. -Seniors wait in bus shelters that aren’t packed with drug users. -Retail workers wouldn’t have to worry about people stealing merchandise to maintain their drug habits. -Businesses of all sizes and types would open and thrive. -We would have enough money and resources to help people who are truly homeless and needy. -Our budget would shrink as we shed unnecessary departments and nonprofit industries. -There would be no poop or blight maps. -We would be known for our history, beauty, innovation, freedom of expression, museums, restaurants, and bars. -Theaters, clubs, and music venues would roar back to life. -Public transportation would be enjoyable. -Instead of dreading going downtown, we would look forward to it. -Police could focus on stopping and solving other crimes. San Franciscans would be proud again. @war24182236 @Gina_McDee @Twolfrecovery @SusanDReynolds @greenbergnation
